When you don't have the support you need, it can cause pain in the ankle area, but its not the bone itself. The tissue of the arch of the foot can becomes irritated and inflamed if your arch doesn't have the support it needs. But the thing is, most skate shoes do have arch support, even though they don't look like it from the outside. So skate shoes are fine for your feet with the right support
