To make saltwater for animals is easy , you can now buy a small device which turns normal water into salt water for your Hermit Crab . I would nip down to your local pet store or fish store and ask about the device :)
Ladybug15057- To make salt water for your hermit crabs you need to buy an ocean/sea mix sold specifically for salt water tanks. Mix the ocean/sea mix per instructions in dechlorinated (or distilled bottled), water but only mix a gallon at a time. This will make the salinity level between 1.021-1.024.
Marine Hermit Crabs need a cycled salt water tank (like a reef tank) complete with live rock and corral for them to clean and feed off of. They cannot live outside of the water for very long.
"No, they need salt water."
No, unfortunately they can't... Hermit crabs lay their eggs in the ocean, they are born without shells, and eat plankton. If you have a very large aquarium, and can manage to make a mini-saltwater ocean inside as well as dry land, it could be possible... Remember that the ocean must have a proper amount of salt! (table salt is harmful to hermit crabs too...)
It has to have 70-80 F and humidity to live, if you can 1 other hermit crab, distilled water, SEA salt water, 1 gallon of space per hermit crab, and food of course! They are scavengers and will eat anything like fruits and veggies. change food and waters daily / nightly
All hermit crabs love sea salt. DO NOT GIVE IT TABLE SALT. IT WILL KILL THE HERMIT CRAB. All hermit crabs should have a small bowl of fresh water & salt water. You can purchase salt water from your local pet store. If you want fresh water you should give your hermit crab bottled water. Faucet water contains toxins which are bad for any pet. They will not die, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Land Hermit Crabs consume fresh water. It is suggested by some pet stores to have two watering dishes. One for bottled fresh water and the other for bottled salt water. The hermit crab can choose between the two depending upon the nutrients it feels it needs. If you do not have salt water- that is fine, it is not necessary.
No hermit crabs need distilled water for fresh water (which they drink), and need SEA salt water for them to bathe in (so the exoskeleton gets stronger)
You should put distilled water and and sea salt water in your crab's tank. It shouldn't be deep enough for the crab to submerge itself in, but they have to be able to get out or they can drown. Hermit crabs need distilled water because the clorine in tap water burns their modified gills and sofacates them, same with table salt. use SEA salt.
unless there not enemies then yes.
purple pincher hermit crabs, you can tell this crab apart from other because they have a purple pincher. these need fresh water so the water we drink is the water they need to drink all other type of hermit crabs need salt water
if you keep it in a bucket of salt and water, it will live.
Neither, You spray Fairy tears. Jon Reade
Not successfully. Crabs lay their eggs in a large body of salt water (bay, sea). If you crab lays eggs in it's water dish, they will not hatch.
