you should keep a little of both in your tank because some crabs like fresh water and some like salt water But, NEVER EVER give your hermit crab table salt!!!! Also NEVER EVER give it water that has chlorine in it. thanks because i found 3 in the water so pis off.

To make saltwater for animals is easy , you can now buy a small device which turns normal water into salt water for your Hermit Crab . I would nip down to your local pet store or fish store and ask about the device :)
Ladybug15057- To make salt water for your hermit crabs you need to buy an ocean/sea mix sold specifically for salt water tanks. Mix the ocean/sea mix per instructions in dechlorinated (or distilled bottled), water but only mix a gallon at a time. This will make the salinity level between 1.021-1.024.

∙ 15y agoMarine Hermit Crabs need a cycled salt water tank (like a reef tank) complete with live rock and corral for them to clean and feed off of. They cannot live outside of the water for very long.
