From each corner of the metal square, cut out a 4cm*4cm square (and discard).

Fold each of the four flanges (4 cm wide) up through 90 degrees.

If the joints can be made water-tight, you will have a box whose bottom is 16 cm*16 cm and whose depth is 4 cm. This gives a total volume of 1024 cm3 or 1.024 litres.

A couple of qualifications to the answer (only for those who are interested):

Instead of cutting off 4cm*4cm squares, you could cut off square of any size from 3.4cm*3.4cm to 4.7cm*4.7cm. The answer given above is the maximum volume you can get and it is also an integer number.

Cutting off kite shapes from the corners will enable you to fold into a parallelopiped - a trough-like shape with a square cross-section that increases in size as you go up. I have not calculated the maximum volume for such a shape nor the optimum shape and size of the cuts.

A 6 kg piece of metal displaces 1 liter of water when submerged what is its density?

If the water is at standard temperature and pressure (25 degrees Celsius and one atmosphere), the water has density of 1 kilogram per liter. When submerged, the metal displaces its own volume of water. Therefore, the volume of the metal is 1 liter, and the density of the metal is 6 kg/liter.

What is the the density of metal?

It depends on the metal. Lithium has lower density than water: 0.534 kg per liter. Copper is 8.94 kg per liter. Tungsten, which is now used as sinkers for fishing is 19.25 kg per liter. Osmium is the density champion at 22.59 kg per liter.

Definitions of measuring and marking operations?

The operation in which we measure our desired vertical length and horizontal length with measuring tools (for example;scale,tri-square,vernier calliper, screw gauge, etc. ) and mark that measured vertical length and horizontal length by marking tools for example;scriber, etc. on our metal piece, is called measuring and marking operation.

How many layers in a Japanese sword?

It depends on the smith. Shinganae is generally folded about 10 times, resulting in about a 1000 layers. Kawagane is folded anywhere from 12 to 16 times, depending on the smith and the metal he is working with, and so could have from 4000 to 65000 layers.
