A good potion for me was the potion of swiftness and potion of strength and to make those you need the following:
1. Brewing Stand (kill blazes and get blaze rods, you will also need to get cobblestone)
2. Sugar (collect sugar canes and turn them into sugar in the crafting table)
3. Blaze Powder (get blaze rods and turn them into powder using the crafting table)
4. Glass Bottles
5. Water Source
6. Nether Wart (found in nether fortress)
7. Redstone or Glow stone
Then once you have ALL of that then you first make a awkward potion by just putting nether wart in the top box and water bottle in the lower box then just wait one minute and then you will have a awkward potion so make two of those. Tip: it only takes on nether wart to make two awkward potions. Then take the sugar and put one awkward potion in the bottom and sugar in the top and you will get a potion of swiftness. Now do the same thing but replace the sugar with the blaze powder. Here comes a tricky part here's where the red stone and glow stone come in handy if you want to upgrade your potion. So anyway you want glow stone if you want to upgrade your potion in quality but gives you less time for potion, and red stone keeps the potion the same but adds more time to the potion. Tip: I would suggest doing both ways and have them in access when needy of them to both potions.
3 water on the bottom with glistering melon on the top.
A golden carrot will get you a night potion in Minecraft. I suggest checking the related links for a full list of brewing. Who knows, you might just learn a thing or two! It is very helpful!

You can use it to make potion
There are no instant kill potions in minecraft at the moment, just potion of harming, which can do 3 or 6 hearts of damage.
To make a splash potion, take a regular potion and put it in the bottom slots of a brewing stand. Then, put a piece of gunpowder on the top slot of the brewing stand and it will convert the potion to a splash potion.
First you need to combine a regular water bottle with a Nether Wart to make an Awkward Potion. Then combine the Awkward Potion with a Glistering Melon to make Potion of Healing. The full brewing chart can be found below.
