The official Elvira wig style is achieved with a base net cut and sewn into the shape of a dome. The synthetic hair fibers are aligned in rows or tracks starting at the front hairline. The fibers face forwards to form bangs and change direction at the dome and face backwards over the dome and face sideways to fall on each side of the face and head. Because the wig comes in a box it is pressed flat for an extended period of time after being made, the foundation netting of the wig is permanently folded which prevents the dome from staying round and full. To keep the round shape of the bouffant portion of the hair it's best to insert a support material inside the wig before wearing. Black foam padding cut to fit is best. In a pinch even black wadded up tissue paper will work.
Remove the wig from the box and stuff the tissue or trimmed foam padding into the dome of the wig. Place it on a Styrofoam wig head and pin it at the hairline in front and at the base in back. Gently comb with a wide-toothed wig comb. The basis of the Elvira hair-style is a teased bouffant with a soft feathered outer layer of hair to give it a smooth look.
