It really depends on what you want. For straight non-frizzy hair, have a keratin treatment. Keratin is a protein found in hair, but when applied it is almost like a perm with a flatiron. It stays in for around 2 and 1/2 months.
For curls get a perm. You don't have to worry about it washing out and, it last for about the same amount of time as a school year. It works on all ages. I know an 11 year old girl who got it.
