You slept wrong and now have pain in your neck and shoulder?

make sure to only massage your neck a little at a time; stretch only small amounts at a time so as not to injure that muscle; apply warm moist heat as often as possible and try some type of NSAID or ibuprofen for pain/inflammation; like: aleve or Motrin or naprosen....it's still gonna take a few days to get back to normal...and if not~follow up with your doctor :)

Any of several things are possible to cause neck pain when a person sleeps in an odd or uncomfortable way, or even stays in a fairly good posture for a long time without moving much while asleep.

• Aggravation of one or two areas of Arthritis in the neck, called cervical spondylosis or osteoarthritis
• Being so relaxed while asleep that the neck moves farther than it would when awake, later causing stiffness and soreness
• Being so tired at night that, even though your maintain good neck posture, you sleep so deeply that you do not move during the night and your neck is simply stiff and sore from unusually prolonged inactivity
• The position you were in when you slept wrong stressed and strained the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the neck
• The position you were in when you slept wrong allowed the narrow nerve passageways (neuroforamina) to be compressed or closed off a tiny bit, putting pressure on the delicate nerve roots of the neck
• A combination of two or more of the above

Never sleep on your tummy, face down. Train yourself to sleep either on your back or your sides only. If you frequently have neck pain after sleeping, invest in a good quality orthopedic pillow that can prevent or reduce most of the scenarios mentioned above.

I got this today, the main thing I try to do is to not try to look that way it hurts. So when I was younger this happened because I would use those traveling neck pillows as a pillow and that's how I got mine, and how I got mine out is it randomly came out of luck. All they did is they made turn my head to were it hurted and that's how I got mine out a few years ago.
