Well your ps3 is already hd but you just need some components to make it work.

  • Ps3 system
  • HDMI cable
  • HD tv

On the back of your ps3 system there is a port which is a hdmi port. Plug one end of the hdmi cable into it. There is also a hdmi port on a hd readdy tv so you cant get hd on normal tvs. Plug the other end of the cable into the tv. When you next turn on the system it will automatically recoginize the cable but you must make sure that your tv is on the hd setting. Then just follow the on screen instructions.

There u go

The directions on how to replace the PS3's internal hard drive can be found online on the PS3 website or in the PS3 manual

First you need to back up any songs, videos, gamesave data, etc., this can all be done using the backup utility found in System Settings, if you do not care about the data currently on your PS3 hard drive, you may skip this step

Next, purchase a laptop SATA hard drive, laptop and desktop hard drives both have the same connections, but the hard drive bay in the PS3 is too small to support a desktop hard drive, you can install a desktop hard drive in a PS3, but you need extra tools and you have to find extra space near your PS3 for the hard drive, and I will not discuss how to install a desktop hard drive, as it will not fit inside the PS3, a laptop sata hard drive should suffice anyway

After getting the laptop SATA hard drive, disconnect all cables from the PS3 and take the PS3 to a comfortable working environment, sit the PS3 horizontally/flat with the front facing you

Look on the left side of the PS3 for a sticker with the label "HDD" or "Detach this cover when removing the hard disk.", remove the cover the sticker is on, you should then spot a blue screw, remove the blue screw and move the tab to the right (towards the front of the PS3), then pull the bay out of the PS3, and using a standard sized screwdriver (it looks like a screw that you would need a precision screwdriver for, but a precision screwdriver will strip the screws, so use a standard sized screwdriver, and be careful not to strip the screws), then after you have all 4 bay screws out, slide out the old hard drive out of the bay

Now with the new hard drive, do the same thing in reverse order (slide the new drive in, put in all 4 screws, slide drive bay into PS3, slide tab to left/back of PS3, put in blue screw, put cover back on, reconnect to TV)

When you go to boot the PS3 for the first time after replacing the hard drive, you will be greeted with a message saying that it has detected a new hard drive, and it needs to do a quick format, say "Yes" or "OK" (whatever option it gives you), and the PS3 will do a quick format, after which, the XMB will come up like it did before (without themes and other data)

Now, if you did a backup, reconnect the USB hard drive you used for the backup, and go to System Settings, go to Backup, and select Restore, it will then give you a list with an (should be only 1) option of a weird set of numbers, select the weird set of numbers to begin your restore, after restoration is complete, you should now have all your files back, and you may need to change some theme settings back, then your PS3 should be ready to use with the new hard drive

If you wish to install Linux on your new hard drive, go back 2 steps (the step before the restore), and go to System Restore, download the version of PSLinux you want (I would prefer Ubuntu), burn the image, and pop in the CD/DVD, then go to "Install OtherOS", this will search the CD/DVD for the bootloader (unless the bootloader is saved to a flash drive or external hard drive, then it will search for the bootloader "OtherOS.bld" there too), after the bootloader is found and installed, you will see a new option appear called "Boot OtherOS", after you exit out of "Install OtherOS", format the hard drive and allot 10GBs to either the XMB or Linux (I would say Linux), then go to the "Boot OtherOS" option, select OtherOS, and let the PS3 reboot, the PS3 will then run in OtherOS mode and begin the Linux installation, after the installation, type "Boot-Game-OS" at the KBOOT to return to the XMB, then restore your backup like in the previous step

time to buy a new HDD for the PS3. I've had this problem before and I took the HDD out of the PS3 and was testing it in a PC, found a bunch of bad sectors. Bought a new HDD from Tigerdirect.com and it totally fixed the issue.

How can you transfer your PS3 data from the computer back onto the PS3?

When I upgraded my HDD I bought an external HDD backed up ALL of the data on my PS3. Then I suppose you could copy that onto your PC. TO get it back to your PS3 system you would have to use an external HDD and just copy everything over. Or use lots of Memory Sticks.
