How do you make your tongue stop hurting after you got it stuck to a pole?

You may put a rag on it and hope for it to stop bleeding, then try not to talk. Also, you can sleepwith you tongue out of your mouth. I know this sounds foolish, but i had this happen to me on the new years on 2010. And these were the steps i took to make the pain go away. Hope you feel better.
