If you are adding the cheese to the broccoli, you can cook and drain the broccoli. Add the cheese while the broccoli is hot. Cover the pan with a lid and stir it occasionally. You can do this over heat or not, depending on how thick or large the pieces of cheese are. If it is shredded, it probably won't need heat.
If you are using the cheese to pour over the broccoli, you can melt it in the microwave or in a saucepan over low heat, stirring often.
