First, find out what device it is. When you plug it in, run "dmesg" to see what it's ID is. For instance, run
dmesg | grep sd
And find a line like
[42723.415115] sd 5:0:0:0: [sdf] 2015231 512-byte hardware sectors (20148 MB)
This means that the device is known to the kernel as /dev/sdf.
Now identify what partition you want to mount. If the drive has only one partition, it would be /dev/sdf1. The second partition would be /dev/sdf2, etc... Make a mount point for it in /media, and mount it. You will need root permissions.
mkdir /media/disk-1
mount /dev/sdf1 /media/disk-1
A SATA enclosure is a way to use a hard drive externally. One can remove a hard drive and store it on the enclosure which can connect to another computer where its files can be viewed.
The easiest way to make an internal hard drive portable is to purchase what's called a hard drive enclosure. Hard drive enclosures are kits that have everything you need to make your own portable hard drive. Make sure you get a hard drive enclosure that matches the size and interface type as your hard drive, as well as the means of connectivity that you wish. As an example, you can have a 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure that connects to your computer with a USB cable. Most computer stores have hard drive enclosure. The best place to get one is probably tigerdirect.com. There are many of them available on eBay.
Yes you could do this-they would just need a hard drive enclosure to mount it in, then they could attach it to their computer as a second hard drive, and copy any files over that they wanted.
If a hard drive is external to computer then it is easy to move it between computers if required or take it away for safe keeping. If it has a good had drive enclosure then it is more protected from the elements or from accidental damage.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdxSubstitute the appropriate drive letter for x. Be very careful that you do not erase the wrong hard drive.
You normaly only need a srew driver
You can purchase an online hard disk enclosure from the shopping website known as newegg. Alternatively you may find a better price on the amazon shopping website or from the ebay bidding website
Yes
Some components that go inside a computer enclosure include the motherboard, CPU, CD drive and hard drive. Another component that goes inside a computer enclosure is the RAM.
It depends. If it is a laptop hard disk, and you know the interface (IDE or SATA, there is a difference), you would purchase a 2.5" IDE/SATA Hard Disk Enclosure. If it is a desktop hard disk, and you know the interface (IDE or SATA, there is a difference), you would purchase a 3.5" IDE/SATA Hard Disk enclosure. Hopefully this helps.
A portable hard drive is just an external hard drive with set memory, for example 320GB, A hard drive enclosure is if you have an internal you wish to use as an external, you simply connect it to the enclosure and use it. However permissions etc have to be overwritten to access the data, so if your not very technical, best just buy an external
The hard drive is not included. This is just an enclosure. Once you add a drive and plug it into a USB port, It would show up under my computer as a drive letter.
