There are several ways to clean a stall.
1: Do a basic daily mucking pulling out the manure and urine spots then replenish the bedding. At some point the stall will need to be stripped and re-bedded.
2: Deep-litter method. Not really recommended for horses as it does cause ammonia build up. You simply pick the manure out and add more bedding over the urine spots or work the urine into the bedding. This is not a sanitary method.
3: 'Corner method'. You pick all of the manure and urine out that is visible, then begin to shift the bedding into one corner of the stall. Once all of the bedding has been thoroughly sifted through and piled in one corner you sweep all of the dust and bits of feed up, then either let the bedding stay in the corner for a few hours to let the floor air out a bit or lay it back down. This keeps stalls the cleanest and you can typically go up to 8 weeks in-between strippings.
