Dating a friend's ex doesn't automatically make you a bad person. I've had this type of situation happen to me- my best friend is currently dating my ex, and has been for longer than a year. I think this can just create sort-of-awkward situations between you and the friend, especially if he/she is strongly against it. The friend will probably see it as a lack of loyalty- but it doesn't make you a bad person! Be hopeful, and they will probably forgive you pretty quickly. True friendship is worth it.
