How do you open PowerPoint made on a Windows on a Mac?

There is a Microsoft Office version for the Macintosh platform available. It is called Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.

You can also view PowerPoint presentations on Apple's own office productivity suite, iWork. iWork and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac are both available from the Apple online store.

A PowerPoint file can be opened on Mac OS X by double clicking on the file's icon. The Mac will need suitable software available such as Microsoft's PowerPoint, Apple's KeyNote or the Open Office suite.

There are several solutions to have PowerPoint presentations on Mac OS X:

• Run Windows with Bootcamp and you will be able to use Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows;
• Run Windows in virtual machine (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, Oracle VirtualBox (free), QEMU (free), etc) and again you can use Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows;
• Buy a copy of Microsoft Office for Mac (latest release is 2011) which includes native (Mac OS X) version of Microsoft PowerPoint;
• You can open your presentation in Apple's Keynote application, it does have some support for Microsoft format presentations. You should not not expect complicated slides to be 100% exactly same as in Microsoft PowerPoint;
• Another alternative is OpenOffice or newer fork/branch LibreOffice (suggested) which also has support for Microsoft PowerPoint formats, but again should not expect full compatibility.
• For viewing purposes always use PDF format. Which makes your presentation operating system independent.
