there should be enough of a gap to stick a flat head screwdriver between the hood and the grill. the level sticks out just enough that you can push it. the interior latch has a cable with a metal bead at the end that connects to a metal loop. that is the release for the hood latch. push it, and then use the safety release to open the hood.
I have a 1994 Grand Prix. My hood latch cable also broke. I can't seem to find the assemble to open it manualy. Can anyone help me?

You will need to remove the grill from your 2000 GMC Jimmy. With the grill removed. You can remove the hood latch retaining bolts. The hood will be released with the latch bolts removed.
driver side left foot area there is a hood leveler, you pull it if it will not open your cable may be damage.
use the key...manualy I didnt get a hood key with my 93.(re*&$%) You will have no choice but to go underneath the car and try to reach the latch. Somtimes you can see where the cable attaches. Use a screwdriver, pliers, or whatever to activate the lever. Move the lever in the same direction as the cable would and the hood should release.
The initial hood release is in the glovebox. just pull it and the hood will pop-up an inch or two. You'll find a secondry release under the hood. Sometimes the first attempt to open the hood fails. You may have to "play with it" for awhile!
the relay will be in the fuse box under the hood. When you open the hood the box will be on the right just behind the wiper fluid resivour.
Pull the hood release lever near the parking brake on the bottom of the driver's side dash. Push the lever under the hood up and push up on the hood.
open hood look to ur left on firewall.
Reach through the plastic grill and pull cable!!!!!!
