I am afraid to say that if you have to ask that question, you should not even open the bonnet.
The release lever is on the drivers side of the car (for Right hand drive cars) down by your feet. If pulling the lever is not working, pull the lever, and get a second person to gently thump the bonnet in the middle at the front. This MIGHT shake the lock free if it's a bit stiff. Remember to lube the lock if this works.
get another person to pull the handle, and thump the bonnet/hood at the front in the middle, but not hard enough to dent the metal. If the catch is just a bit stucky due to lack of use this should shake the bonnet open. Then lubricate the mechanism, and open it more than once a year!
The Opel Astra 2.0 16v engine is an interference and non interference. This is one of them most important aspects that any potential buyer should check. Interference engines rely using timing gears while a non interference engine has a piston that does not go anywhere with open valves.
bonnet wont open with leaver how can I get it open?
my bonnet is stuck fast how can i open it.
If you open the bonnet, then look down behind the front bumper, it is normally right in the middle of the bumper just in front of the radiator
Look for a lever under the dashboard. Pull the lever and you should hear the bonnet (US = hood) release a little. Look at the front of the car and you should see a small safety cash sticking out of the grill. Pull on the latch and the bonnet should be released enough for you to lift it.
There may be an open bonnet. The bonnet may not have been closed properly, as can happen.
The lever is on the drivers side, below the steering wheel on the right side, near the pedals. Then pull the tab that has popped out at the front grill. If the lever is broken, you can try using 2 people to open the bonnet: Get someone to pull the release lever below the steering wheel TOWARDS them. While they are pulling it towards them you can go stand in front of the bonnet and press down firmly on the middle/end of the bonnet (above the emblem) until you hear a click. The tab in the grill should then pop out for you to pull, and the bonnet should open like normal when you pull the tab
