AMAZING!. it works!
a magnifying glass held steady to the Right of the tumbler helps. and a desk lamp so you don't have to hold a flash light too.
000 is the default... but if the lock gets "accidentally" changed here is what you do...
AnswerTo RESET THE COMBO:
If that doesn't work for you, you might as well get a new set of luggage. (I know, sad, but true) I would suggest going for a discounted set since luggage can get really expensive. And this time try remembering the combo.

Follow-up:
I was able to open my suitcase using the answer above. Here are a couple of tips:
The little hole or divot in the shaft was to the right of the wheel and hidden unless one pushes the wheel to the left while turning it. When all the shaft holes are lined up the lock would open by pushing the release mechanism tabs on either side of the lock.
Note that the release mechanism does not open by squeezing the center latch tabs together or pushing them apart. Instead one must move BOTH together to the right and the word OPEN will appear.
i forget my vip brifce code and how to open
Yes, HOWEVER- if it is locked, and TSA needs to inspect the inside of the luggage, they CAN break it open. You should leave it unlocked.
If you lost a code, you need to contact the american tourister company or a locksmith. The locksmith has master keys that he can use to help you open it.
The Samsonite Aeris suitcase does not come with a standard lock and key. You must use a code to open it with. The code usually comes with the suitcase when it is purchased.
It would probably help if you just used a pry bar.
Use the key provided
To open your VIP luggage that has a number spin lock just spin the number to the position of your combination. Your luggage will then open. This is very nice luggage and the spin lock is a very convenient feature.
Use the key that came with the suitcase.
I am the one who needs help here!!!
As a former luggage store owner I saw this problem a lot. Most luggage repair shops and a few that sell luggage will know how to open it. Basically it involves using a small device to "pick" the lock. There are some other ways, but I couldn't explain them here. You last choice would be to start at 0-0-0 and try the lock, then goto 0-0-1, try the lock, 0-0-2.... until you get to 9-9-9 and realize that the lock is actually broken and it will have to be broken open and then repaired. It may take a while, but it works. I hope if you try that method, it's not 4 digits.
if it is not open
use the siccors to open it and the thingy is in their
