There are two ways to partition a hard drive that I practice without using a third party software.
- The first way is to partition the drive in the set up environment using a windows xp bootable disk. The exact direction are here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348

You can install Windows 7 from optical drive (CD, DVD), hard drive (a local copy), network or USB device.

You dont have to format the drive to install windows. But it is a good idea. If you try to install windows onto a drive which already has windows on it (working or non-working) it will probably refuse to continue instead preferring to attempt to fix the existing install. You can get around this by renaming or deleting the original windows folder

You can only download the Windows Support Software via the Boot Camp Assistant. It is only accessible from that application. You have to have an external USB HD, Flash Drive or blank DVD to install it to.

What the reason do clean installation?
After time your Computer gets bogged down. Windows is good for that. A bad virus can kill your OS. But when doing a clean install make sure your HARD Drive is totally wiped out. Before putting a fresh install on your PC.
