Press each of the vertical lines (|-) exactly once, and all four lines will go to horizontal (----). Now you can walk over the scorpion pit.

The dashes -|-- on the wall indicate the positions of the stones that cross the scorpion pit. To get them all sideways (----) press the ones that are already dashes (1, 3, 4) once each. Now you can cross the pit.

There is a key of symbols on the wall when you first enter the pyramid. It shows you the symbols to step on.
You push them off either side to recreate the design on the wall and it will open another wall that you should go through.
Push them off the shelf to either side and match them to the painting on the wall below. (see related question)
