It partly depends on things like what size of dog you want, how much room your house has, do you have a fenced yard, how much extra money your family has and things like that. The price of buying a puppy isn't the only cost--they also have to have food and medical care, just like people.
Your parents are going to wonder how much extra work the puppy is going to be for them. You need to prove that you will do the work and that you will be a good owner for a dog.
Ways to do that are: (1) Training a dog needs patience. Prove that you are patient by not whining or arguing, doing all your homework, and things like that.
(2) Training your dog, cleaning up after a dog, and walking your dog all take responsibility. Prove that you are responsible by doing all the work your parents have for you quickly and without arguing. Take on extra work, that will impress them. Don't ask for pay unless they are asking you to help pay for the dog.
(3) Dogs require adjustments in your lives. Prove you can handle that by carefully planning (in writing) for the dog's needs, like whether it will need a doghouse or live indoors, and who will do the extra clean-up that will be needed if it is indoors--hint: this should be you. Or will you buy a doghouse or can you build one, and how much will it cost? Is your yard fenced? You can't keep a dog on a chain, it will make them mean. How long per day will you need to spend walking your dog? If walks will meet all their bathroom needs, then you will need to walk the dog until it "goes" several times a day--lots, while it is a puppy.
Plan everything out, and show your parents your plans.

To determine how big your puppy will be, look at the parents of the puppy and the breed of the dog. If the parents were two different breeds and sizes, the pup will look like a mix of both parents and between the height of both the parents.
If you are really nice and dont bother your PARENTS then maybe your PARENTS will allow santa to buy you a puppy
Then you do not get a puppy. You must respect what your parents tell you. I am sure there are good reasons for your parents not allowing you to get a pup at this time. It is a lot of responsibility.

both parents
Try talking to your parents about it. Or if they like it and you don't, just try giving it a chance.
you eat cheese
You need to talk to BOTH your parents about that.
Unfortunately no, Santa always checks in with parents to make sure whether or not they can handle having a puppy in the home as well.
