You can only carry one primary weapon at a time. Either a shotgun or uzi. Eventually as you progress through the campaign you will find new weapons. The Autoshotgun, the Assault rifle and the hunting rifle. You have to exchange your current weapon for the new ones, you can also have 2 pistols if you find a second pistol lying around somewhere.
