You can't! All you can do is go with the flow. Don't plan. Just write!
Not True -- you plan what the basic story outline is going to be. I just jot down ideas in my notebook. Sometimes I make a more detailed outline like a map, or write each scene I know will happen on an index card and tack those up in the right order to help me see where the story's going. You can have as little planning as just knowing where the story's going to begin and end, or you can see each scene in your head before you start writing. Every writer has a different way of doing it, but we all do some planning.
