That's not the best explanation. Let me be more specific.....
To play the A key, place your thumb on the hole found beneath the holes on the top side of the recorder. Let your thumb remain there. Once then, place your LEFT hand and your index & middle finger on the first or top two holes. Blow not too hard or soft, just right, and hold your recorder at the perfect angle as well. (Note: This means your left thumb is on the bottom hole)
