To play PlayStation 1 games on a PlayStation 2, all you need to do is put the game disc into the PlayStation 2. If you are gaving any problems, I would ask your nearest games store, as it is most likely broken, or the disc is scratched.
The best way is on a PS2 console. PC emulator programs do not work as perfectly and problem free as a console and even the PS2 does not play Playstation games as perfect and trouble free as the Playstation console did.
You can use "dd" with OS X or Linux or use Toast Titanium or something. They're only data disks and AFAIK they're not encrypted.
Without a Blu-ray disc writer you can't and since all games are copyright protected it will not be legal.
No. Because The Playstation 1 Is Too Old.

Yes it can be played.
If you have purchased a PlayStation game and want to copy it for personal use such as using it for both your playstations, that is legal. However if you copy a legally purchased game and distribute copies for selling and buying, that is considered illegal.
