It is impossible to play as a grunt in Halo 3, even when modifying the game. The only thing you can do is modify a film from campaign and make it look as if you were playing as a grunt. Even so, the typical user has absolutely no means of doing this unless they have connections in the modding scene and are willing to pay good money.

you can get grunt mods for halo trial but not halo pc. If you want a grunt mod for halo pc, then you will need to mod it yourself with HMT v3.5, Spark edit v3.02, and/or HHT v5.
