its like and arpeggio, for the dominant seventh in the key of g, you play the 5th note of the scale which is d then play the d major scale but in the key of g, so you play d, f sharp, a and c natural
you take the key it is in, eg C. then take the dominant note - the 5th one, in this case G. you then play the triad of G but (if it affects it) use the accidentals of C. so a dominant 7th on C would be G B D F. to put it simply it is the 5th 7th 9th and 11th terms of the scale.
