There should be a plug on the front of the motor that comes out between the grill and the bumper. If it has never been used, it may still be taped behind the bumper. This is if the truck is equipped with a block heater, which i don't believe the older ones (80's) were equipped with stock.

It depends where one looks but a frequently recommended truck for diesel truck pulls is the Ford diesel truck but does cost nearly $60,000. Also recommended are the GMC diesel truck and the Dodge diesel truck.

Most of the diesel trucks come with block heaters. If your vehicle was so equipped, it's likely that you'll find a 'male' end of a standard plug (shrouded with a cover....plug and cover are usually BLACK in color), in the front grille area of the truck. Simply remove the shroud and run an extension cord to the male plug provided.
