You can't plug your headset plug into the headset jack without cutting off the speaker(s) because the tip of the plug physically disengages the contacts carrying the audio to the speakers and re-reroutes it to the headset. It might be possible to file off most of the tip of the headset plug so that it does not disengage the jack speaker contacts, but this is likely result in low headset volume as the audio amplifier now has to contend with the resistance of both the speaker and the headset.
