Cut tree and remove branches. Cut lengths at 16 inches and split in half and then in half again.
Stack wood in a sheltered area where wind can get to it but rain cannot. Tarp wood pile if space is limited.
Allow wood to season for at least 8 months for proper drying.
Use branches for kindling.
