There should be an option in your printer settings for page size. There should be a USER SETTING or CUSTOM, or an editable box. You should be able to change the size from there. As far as your printer recognizing the paper size, there should be a sliding plastic bar that you can use to properly align the paper in the feed tray.

The hassles to get the colour right and the high cost of the paper and inks I have found it's not worth it. For example I pay $4 for a 8 X 10 and 30c for a 4 X 6 which is about the cost a DIY when you get it right first time.
