To restrain a rabbit, you can do one of two things:
1. grab it by the scruff of it's neck. Similar to how a mama cat grabs a kitten by it's neck. This way the rabbit cannot bite, but watch out for those hind feet! They can still, and will, kick up and scratch you!
2. this is a little bit trickier, and should only be used if absolutely necessary. There is a certain spot near the hips (it is actually the loin area) that will keep the feet at bay and the teeth away. Here is how you find the spot: Follow the spine back until the pelvis prevents any further. Put your thumb on one side and your middle finger on the other. Move both slightly below the spine past all the "meat". Do not squeeze too hard or you will hurt the rabbit!
I have handled certain rabbits who are extremely aggressive and I have had to use both of these methods together, but again only use them when absolutely necessary.
a professional opinion...Never pick a rabbit up by its scruff. A rabbit can buck so hard when handled this way that they literally break its back. Rabbits shouldn't need serious restraining anyways. Simply holding them correctly and securely should do.
