No
No, there are no viruses for the iPod touch.
iOS Devices do not get viruses
No, because you cannot download anything from the internet on it.
You probably can somewhere, but you shouldn't NEED to. Unless you have jailbroken your Ipod Touch, viruses and malicous software will not run/work on the iPod Touch platform. Including e-mail attachments.
Snap on cases only protect the back of your iPod touch from getting scratched. They do not really protect against drops.
No. BUt it can be bricked if you don't do it right or used the right software.

To be honest, it is rare to get a irus on your Itouch. But you can get them from downloading anything from your computer then synicing it into your device.
What exactly do you mean by safe... Can the iPod touch get viruses from websites? No. Does the iPod Touch have small pieces that can break off and be swallowed by a small child? No. Will the iPod Touch wake up in the middle of the night, sneak through the house and steal your wallet?... I highly doubt it. iPod Touch has stable software that is not invasive or damaging to your computer in anyway. I have been using my iPod Touch 3G since they came out and have never had any problems with it.
Screen protectors are always a good option when you want to protect a new IPod touch. You should definitely put one on your IPod. You should get a case as well.
It depends on what you mean by 'filter protect'. There are restriction settings on the iPod Touch (which requires a 4-digit pin), which can prevent access to Safari, iTunes, not allow App Store purchases, and so forth. They are available in the settings (the title will be Restrictions). That is about as close as you can get to filtering certain things on an iPod Touch.
