Follow these steps for the new version of Twitter (Feb 2012):
- Log in to the web version of Twitter.
- Click on the top right button with the figure silhouette. (next to the search box)
- From the drop down menu select "settings"
- Scroll down on the page that appears to "Protect my Tweets"
- Tick the box next to this and click "save changes".
