This is because we do not have any means of knowing how ancient Egyptian words or names were originally pronounced, since the writing system only records the consonant skeleton of each word - vowels were not written. Naturally the ancient Egyptians knew exactly how to say their own words, but that knowledge is lost for ever.

The name of the many different pharaohs today called Rameses, Ramses or Ramesses is written in hieroglyphs as r'-ms-sw, meaning "Born of Ra". It is clearly impossible to say r'-ms-sw, so the form Rameses has been used by scholars around the world for a very long time - but this is not how it would have been said by ancient Egyptians. It may have been something like Ria'missaw (but this is entirely guesswork).
