There were a number of suggestions by the boys as to the possible nature of the beast. Initially it was described as a snake-thing but this was dismissed, as none of the boys had ever seen a large snake on the island. There were fanciful discussions relating to giant squid and ghosts but the only concrete description of the beast was provided by Samneric, who actually saw it. What they saw however was not a beast but a dead body attached to a parachute. If the beast was not real then all that was left was the boys themselves. The 'beast' was simply an externalised imaginary projection of the evil within themselves. There was no need to look any further than the boys themselves for the beast. It was the boys who killed a littlun through negligence, who killed Simon during a frenzied dance and killed Piggy on a mere impulse. It was the boys who planned to hunt, kill and behead Ralph, the boys who joked about hunting littluns. The boys became increasing violent, savage and irresponsible as the book progressed. During the confrontation at Castle Rock Ralph actually said to Jack, and I quote... "You're a beast and a swine and a bloody, bloody thief." Golding was extremely careful about his choice of words and his use of the words 'beast, swine and bloody' in the description of Jack were deliberate.
Simon is the boy who expresses concern about the existence of a beastie in "Lord of the Flies". He suggests that the beastie may be within themselves, representing the darkness and savagery present in each of them.
at first its the boy with the mulberry shaped birthmark...then percy,...then the whole lot
The boy who was talking about the "beastie"
He thought he saw a snake-thing or beastie.
The first mention of the beast in "Lord of the Flies" comes from a littlun who describes a 'beastie' living in the forest. This notion of a beast becomes a recurring theme throughout the novel as the boys grapple with their fears and the idea of a supernatural creature on the island.
The beastie snake-like thing is said to have been seen by Sir Galahad, who was a knight of the Round Table. It was part of his quest to retrieve the Holy Grail.
I'm guessing this is a question about the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. If so, Samneric saw the corpse of a parachutist. The parachute's strings were tangled up and every time the wind blew, the corpse seemed to sit up because the parachute was dragging it.
The littlun with the mulberry coloured birthmark on his face was the first boy to mention the snake-thing or beastie. He mentioned it at the meeting in chapter 2: Fire on the Mountain. The littlun he said that he'd seen during the previous night and he was worried that it might return and try to eat him.
In lord of the flies, ben is a follower of jack...or a choir boy.
Yes!!!! Suzeeque and Beastie-Boy are a couple!!!! Now & forever!
Hell.
piggy
The first littleun to go missing is a shy little boy with a birthmark on his face who was the first to claim that he saw a "beastie." He went missing in chapter 2 when the boys lit their first fire. Piggy noticed that the boy was gone and everyone feared that he could have accidentally fallen in the fire. They quickly forget about the boy. And we are never to find out what happened to him. Hope that helped :)
Probably because Piggy had spoken to the boy at the meeting, trying to find out what the boy mean't by taking about a "beastie." This interaction with the boy and also because the boy had a memorable mulberry coloured birthmark on his face meant that Piggy quickly noticed his absence when the fire went out of control.
