the 1996 camaro engine has to be pulled from the bottom of the car.I know from experience
pull the ECM/PCM fuse for a few seonds then replace it. that should reset it

Answerwith a little modification it will but no it won't bolt up to the 96 engine and besides the 96 had a stronger transmission then the 86.
pull out the u-shaped hook that holds it in. it faces the dash. you might have to put the gear into 1st or 2nd to have enought room.
