All you need is a paper clip, a test light or a short piece of wire. Next to the connector for the DTC scanner you will see a small single gray connector.
Shove any one of those 3 items into the gray connector.
If you choose a test light connect the terminal to the negative battery post.
For a paper clip or wire connect it to the lower right hole in the connector for the dtc scanner.
Turn the key to on / run but do not start the vehicle.
Count how many times the check engine light flashes and that is the code/ codes.
For another version of the test start the vehicle and count how many times the check engine light flashes and that is the code/ codes.
That is where the OBD code reader ( for trouble codes ) plugs in
TAke it to auto Zone They will read the codes free.
Trouble code P0316 means: Misfire in the First 1000 Revolutions
If your check engine light is blinking with the engine running that is indicating a misfire - get your vehicle scanned for any trouble codes to diagnose and then repair the problem
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem
Trouble code P0000 means: No fault found

Those are dealer codes so I don't have them in my book. But, you can type in Ford diagnostic codes in google or ask and they will lead you toa site that will give you the information you are looking for. Also, your local parts dealer may have them.
If your check engine light blinks with the engine running it means that a misfire has been detected . Your F150 needs to be scanned for trouble codes in order to diagnose which cylinder or cylinders are misfiring and then repaired
Auto Zone will check your computer codes for FREE... They can also clear them.
An auto xray scanner can determine if a O2 sensor is bad.
