in other words the squeeky pop test
You put the gas in a tube and then put a lit wooden stick in it, if it pops it's hydrogen
First take test tube (an empty test tube) hydrogen is colorless ,tasteless and odorless. (it is also very light that why weather balloons are filled with hydrogen). Then put a burning splint at the mouth of the test tube and you know that there is hydrogen in the air because hydrogen burns with a pop when it is mixed with air so now you know that there is hydrogen in the air.
Put a light splint into a test tube containing hydrogen. If it pops its hydrogen if not something else. But make sure there oxygen in the test tube too or else the hydrogen wont react with Oxygen to produce water (this reaction causes the pop sound)
Insert a lighted splint into the reaction test tube. If it extinguishes with a "pop" sound, Hydrogen is present. The duller the pop the purer the hydrogen is.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------P.S. that's a burning splint.
1.Put the substances you want to test for hydrogen in a test tube. 2.Put your finger over the top of the test tube 3.When you feel the gas pushing against your finger light a match or splint. 4.Remove your finger and immediately and put the lit match above the test tube. 5.If you here a Squeaky pop it mean the gas generated is Hydrogen! Make sure you wear safety goggles!
Hydrogen
If the gas in the test tube is hydrogen, the substance inside would be hydrogen gas since the gas in the tube is hydrogen itself.
This would happen because of the process of diffusion. Hydrogen molecules would move from the hydrogen test tube where they are highly concentrated to the air test tube where their concentration is low.
if the substance is in a test tube, then first cover it with something, another test tube for example, to trap the gas. then get a flame and put it in between the tubes. if a popping sound is made then hydrogen is present. if there is no sound there is none. #steven asquith :)
Put magnesium and hydrochloric acid in a test tube. When you see fizzing in the test tube this means there is a chemical reaction!Light a splint and hold it in the test tube.If hydrogen is there the splint will make a squeaky pop! and if you put the gas in lime water it will turn milky white
If a lighted splint is put near of a mouth of a test tube containing hydrogen gas squeaky pop sound is heard.
you put the hydrochloric acid in a test tube then you put the magnesium metal in the test tube with the hydrochloric acid in it then you put a cork on the top ofthe test tube and watch it fizz.
