How do you put a video into Windows Movie Maker?

Video for Windows Movie Maker needs to contain one of the file name extensions (formats) listed below before it can be imported into Windows Movie Maker:

.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

To see if your video is a compatible format, right-click the file and choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Note the file extension (example: .wmv, .avi).

If the video is correctly formatted for Windows Movie Maker, click the Import Media button (top right corner of the program) and locate the video on your computer or Removable Disk. Click Import.

The video should appear in the Imported Media pane. Drag and drop the video into the Storyboard or Time-line view of the program and click Play in the preview pane to see the results.
