It's called Fondant. I learned this from watching Cake Boss. They pretty much roll it out and cut it to the appropriate size and lay it across the cake. It looks professional and is edible.
Put Olive oil. I had a big stain of fondue fuel on my wood table and it's gone.
Any fruit will work well dipping in a fondue as long as it has the consistency to hold together on a skewer. Any fruit that will not stay put on a skewer when being dipped in the fondue of your choice would not be a good idea.

For meat fondue in broth, you need a fuel burner or an electrical fondue pot. For chocolate fondue, you melt your chocolate prior and keep it warm with a candle under the pot. (a chocolate fondue pot is smaller than a meat fondue pot)
It depends on the material of the fondue pot. Most ceramic and cast iron fondue pots are oven-safe, while others made of non-stick or plastic materials may not be. Always check the manufacturer's instructions to ensure your specific fondue pot can withstand oven temperatures. If it's safe, you can use it in the oven, but be mindful of the temperature and cooking times.
Not in a cake, but on a cake because otherwise it will explode.
Is la fondue a dish?? Usually it means "the bottom".
