You can't. You have to sync it.
In order to put music on an iPod, first put the music into your computer's iTunes (download this if necessary). Once the music is in the iTunes, syncing the iPod should put the music in.

What you are doing is 'syncing', and every time you sync your iPod, it will back it up. If you do not want to back up your iPod, highlight the music from your library that you want to put on the iPod and just drag it onto the iPod Touch menu.

That is impossible. You cannot put anything on an ipod without syncing it. The definition of syncing is "combining." Whoever gave this answer obviously doesn't know much about iPods. The songs are in a hidden folder. If you go to ipod's on explorer, you can view all hidden files and folders, search around. They are there
