A trance, or dissociated state, occurs commonly in most people quite regularly - eg "daydreaming", or when performing a repetitive task. Individuals may enter trance states when attention is fixed by, for example, listening to a speaker whom they find interesting (or boring!), or maybe staring into a fire. Rhythmical sounds, visual stimuli (eg flashing lights), or movements may also induce trance.
The simplest method of deliberately inducing a trance in someone is to "fix" their attention on something - a dot, spiral, candle flame etc - and gently talk them into a relaxed state. Repetition of words/ sounds, or even ideas, is very useful because the basic aim is to get them to focus entirely on one thing to the exclusion of all else - to induce a "monoideistic" state of mind.
Eventually, a willing person will enter a "right brain state" - ie the right hemisphere of the brain is dominant - in which emotion, creativity, intuition etc pervade their thinking. People in this state are highly suggestible, and will respond less critically to ideas or instructions; they're often quite "playful" and curious, and it is, therefore, usually quite easy to lead them into a "deeper" trance state.
Basically, any sustained rhythmical/ repetitive action, sound, word sequence, music, touch etc may put someone who is receptive into a trance, and often people enter trances when dancing, being massaged, making love, listening to music etc..

I believe it is called: Hypnotism.
Repetitive words, gestures, patterns, touch etc are often good ways of inducing a trance. This is particularly the case in intimate situations. It's usually very easy to put someone with whom you're intimately acquainted into a trance because a high degree of trust and rapport already exists between you. Often some shared intimacy (eg a particular word, sign, symbol etc) can become a "trigger" for trance induction. It's easy to put someone into a trance, provided that the person trusts you and is willing to cooperate: as long as you are confident, friendly/ gentle, positive and reassuring, virtually any focused and repetitive procedure is likely to have the desired effect.
The girl sat in a trance, while gazing a the ocean.
