If you are on disability you can qualify for low income housing. If you are a single parent with kids you can also qualify.

You must apply for low income rent housing and you must qualify. Typically you have to be below the 50% median income level to qualify for hud section 8 rental housing.

Income of each family member is required, as well of the health and age. Any health problems are taken into consideration. There is also a waiting list if you qualify, and you must keep the housing and fFinance Authority informed of any income or address changes or you will be removed from the waiting list. http://www.ehow.com/how_5029343_apply-low-income-housing-units.html

You can qualify for low income housing by contacting the U.S. Department of Housing. You will have to fill out an application and send it to them. For more information, you can go the U.S. Department of Housing website: http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/topics/rental_assistance/phprog

Low income housing varies from state to state. Some states require people to qualify before they are considered, as there is tough competition to move in. Look in the classified sections of your local newspaper for cheap housing options.
