For the 88-89 models they use a very early OBD system. It is call feedback carb, and it is fairy easy to read. You need to locate the single wire plug next to the brake fluid reservior, it should just be dangling there next to another plug that isn't connected to anything. place a jumper wire between that single plug and a good ground. Now just go turn the key to ACC, and watch the check engine light. if you see one flash, then a short pause, and the light flashes 5 times, that would be an example of an O2 sensor. there are a handfull of codes, you can look them up online or run to an autoparts store and peek in a repair manual and run away. good luck.
