rebuilding auto transmissions is not easy. there are books you can buy that can walk you through it. however there are several special tools you would need to do this job on your own.
Yes it will.

.002" is what I have on a fresh rebuild.
Is there a manual to rebuild a 350 turbo transmission on a 1977 Chevy Truck on line that I can order or down load for free I think if you got to Chevy truck parts .com you can find one
everybody has a 350 but not everyone has a 396, the 396 is a lot more expensive to rebuild but the torque from that big block is worth it.
head gaskets??? warped heads? did you have them milled?
cheep = have it tuned and timed expensive = rebuild it with a hp cam and port and polish the heads.
Sounds like a rod bearing. Time for a rebuild job.
A lot depends on your location and the type of rebuild you're planning. In my area of the mid-atlantic states a stock rebuild from a transmission shop including installation would run about $1500.
Depends on the type and make of engine, your expertise and the tools available. I could totally dismantle and rebuild a lawnmower engine in a day, - a Chevy 350 took me a little longer.
carb probably needs a rebuild, or mtering rods are set too rich.
clutch packs are bad time for rebuild
