Honestly? You're better off to have it done by a professional. Trying to add refrigerant without knowing how much you have in your system often leads to the system being undercharged or overcharged, both of which can wreck an AC system. In addition, when a service shop does it, they'll do a system performance test which will identify problems with the AC system, as well as do a vacuum test (followed by a leak test with a halogen leak detector if it fails the vacuum test). They will also ensure that the oil level in the compressor is correct - something "DIY-ers" usually don't do.
