Modern computer monitors are designed to stay off (even when turned on) until they actually receive a video signal from the computer. Most likely this isn't a problem with your monitor, but a problem with your computer. Check the cables & make sure the signal cable isn't loose or disconnected. If that isn't it, you probably have a problem with your computer that is keeping it from sending a signal. To find out for sure, hook the monitor up to a laptop or some other computer, if the monitor works there, you know the problem is somewhere in your system. A possibly related side-note. Ive found that many times when a computer wouldn't produce video, its been because of a loose (or bad) ram stick. You may try reseating the ram. If you have 2 sticks, try the machine on just one, & then just the other.
