An ex means the relationship is over and both parties should move on. Your friend was just being a good friend by protecting you, but it was really none of his/her business and should have let you and your ex handle things. Leave well enough alone. He probably needed a good whack up the side of the head anyway! Time for you and your friend to move on and forget this guy.
