3DS games do not have friend codes, it is the friend code of the 3DS itself that you use, to be able to play multiplayer on a 3DS game.
The face on the 3DS is not pictochat, as the 3DS does not support it. The face is the Friend List where you can register other player's 3DS via Friend Codes.
You don't have to register any friend code on Pokémon X and Y since they appear automatically based on the ones registered on your Nintendo 3DS.
to register your friends your friend must have a 3ds with swapnote also and then once you find them you have to enter there code
You register their friend codes. Via Internet, Via Local or Via Games (such as Mario Kart 7 when using local multiplayer mode).
The 3DS itself has a universal friend code that is used on all the 3DS games and applications the player uses. It means they only need to add a friend once, by adding their 3DS code, they can play multiplayer in any 3DS game that supports it. For regular DS games, it is the game itself that has its own code, so you'd register your friend's Soul Silver friend code on your own Soul Silver, etc, whether you play it in a 3DS or the older models. You could not though add someone's Soul Silver code to the 3DS friend list.

Simply go to the register friend card and at the top it will say notifications. All you have to do then is delete that specific friend card.
Tap the Friend List icon (the orange smiley face at the top) on the HOME Menu, then Register Friend. You can register a friend automatically over local wireless or type in their Friend Code manually.
