If you have an automatic lighter connected to the thermostat follow these directions:

- Turn the on/off/pilot valve to 'pilot'

- Hold the button on top of the controls down completely. This is the thermocoupler button.

- While keeping the thermocoupler button pressed down push the automatic lighter button until the pilot light lites. You can see it lit through the viewing glass.

- Keep holding the thermocoupler button down for a minute after the pilot light is lit.

- If it does not stay lit then your thermocoupler is probably bad and needs to be replaced

What is the risk of an explosion if pilot light on water heater goes out?

When pilot light goes out, gas flows out of the pilot light nozzle. If out has continued for a long time, a gas cloud can develop around the furnace. When you go to light the pilot light, you'll ignite this gas cloud and make a big fire ball. If your basement is drafty, you might never get a huge cloud of gas hovering around your furnace. When you notice that your pilot light is out, you should shut off the gas to the furnace and allow any stray gas to dissipate before you turn the gas back on and light the pilot light. alliedallcityinc.com

Would a pilot light on a gas furnace still work with a defective thermocouple?

Pilot light would work but the main burner would not as the thermocouple proves that there is a pilot light to fire. The main gas valve would not open

No. The pilot valve is closed when no flame is sensed by the thermocouple.

How do you light the pilot light on a heater?

The detailed directions are printed on front of EVERY gas regulator. - However, in general terms, turn regulator switch to OFF for 2 minutes, then to PILOT and depress for one minute, then light pilot or press clicker till it lights. Keep PILOT pressed for 2 more minutes then slowly release it. If it stays on then turn main switch to RUN or ON. -If you have to light the pilot manually, use a barbecue match (12 inches long)

How do you relight the pilot-light of the home heating furnace?

Turn the knob on the top of the gas valve to "Pilot" and hold it down. Put your match or lighter near the pilot and it should light. Continue holding the knob down for about 30 seconds then release, and the pilot should stay lit. If it goes out then you may need to replace the thermocouple (the gold color rod that the pilot flame burns on) or have the pilot cleaned if it has a yellow flame.

How do you reignite a gas furnace?

You should not be relighting the furnace, if your unit does not have an automatic ignitor you merely need to relight the pilot light and the instructions to do that specifically for your equipment can be found somewhere on the unit.

You replaced the thermocouple in your furnace but the pilot light still goes out when button is released?

The pilot flame has to encompass the top half inch of the thermocouple. A dirty pilot will sometimes point the flame away and therefore not heat the thermocouple enough to hold. Take a small rubber hose about two feet long and point it at the pilot orface and blow through the hose to remove the ash on the pilot surface Now relight and try it out.

typically there is a pilot light underneath the base of the water heater. There should also be a latch or opening so you can light it. Look inside with a flash light so you get a better view before trying to light it. I recommend using long matches or a barbecue liter.
